Delight, Not Duty

Delight, Not Duty

Delight, Not Duty

Read: Psalm 1:2; Psalm 42:1-2

There is a profound difference between reading Scripture out of obligation and delighting in it as the very words of the living God. The blessed person described in Psalm 1 meditates on God's Word day and night -- not as a legal requirement, but as a deep and genuine longing. Thomas Watson wrote that we should read the Bible with affection, going to it to fetch fire. The goal is not how much of the Bible we get through, but how much of it gets through to us. Come to Scripture hungry, expecting transformation, not merely information.

Reflection Question: When you open your Bible, are you approaching it as a duty to complete or as a feast to enjoy?

Practical Application: Before your next Scripture reading, pause and pray that God would open your heart to receive His Word not as information but as transformation. Read slowly, even if you read less.
