Terrified of the Great Commission? You Aren't Alone.

If you sat in the pews at Grace Point this past Sunday and felt an immediate weight of conviction or inadequacy regarding the Great Commission, take heart. The original disciples likely felt the exact same way. Think about the scene: a small, flawed group of ordinary Galileans standing on a mountain, receiving a command to go out and fundamentally alter the spiritual trajectory of every single nation on earth.

By all human metrics, the mission was entirely impossible. And if the success of the mission depended solely on their strategic planning, eloquence, or personal strength, it would have failed before it started.

But Jesus didn't close His address with a heavy burden or a list of impossible expectations. He sealed His commission with a historic, unwavering promise: “And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

We often forget that the King who commands us is the exact same King who accompanies us. We do not walk into our workplaces, our schools, or our neighborhoods as isolated, lone-wolf missionaries trying to conjure up our own spiritual power. We step out in the active, ongoing presence of the risen Lord.

If you are treating church merely as an attendance destination because you are afraid of failing at the actual mission, look to Christ’s promise. His presence is the antidote to your paralysis.

Before you enter a difficult meeting, drop your kids off at school, or strike up a conversation with an unbelieving neighbor this week, pause and pray: "Lord, I thank You that You are with me right now. Give me the words to say." Step out in His strength, not your own.
