17 Ways We CARE for One Another
17 Ways We CARE for One Another
In John 13:34–35, Jesus calls us to love one another as He has loved us and teaches that this love identifies us as His disciples. These simple practices help each of us care for our church family, strengthen our unity, and make Christ’s love visible in everyday life.
Read the Scripture passages.
1. Notice Who Is Missing
Hebrews 10:24–25 (LSB)
We encourage our church family by noticing absences and reaching out with sincere concern.
Challenge: Contact one person you have missed this week and ask how you can pray for them.
2. Pray With One Another
James 5:16 (LSB)
We bring one another’s burdens to God, trusting His wisdom and power.
Challenge: When someone shares a need this week, offer to pray with them right then.
3 . Give the First Ten Minutes
Romans 15:7 (LSB)
We reflect Christ’s welcome by making room for people beyond our familiar circle.
Challenge: After Sunday’s service, spend ten minutes getting to know someone you do not usually speak with.
4. Share Your Table
1 Peter 4:9 (LSB)
We practice cheerful hospitality by opening our homes and sharing meals with one another.
Challenge: Invite a church member outside your usual circle to share a simple meal this month.
5. Carry a Specific Burden
Galatians 6:2 (LSB)
We express Christ’s love by helping one another bear the weight of difficult circumstances.
Challenge: Offer one specific act of help this week, such as a ride, an errand, or yardwork, and follow through.
6. Provide a Meal in a Hard Season
1 John 3:18 (LSB)
We put love into action when we provide food for a household facing illness, loss, or a new baby.
Challenge: Arrange one meal for a household in need, checking food preferences and a helpful delivery time.
7. Make Encouragement a Habit
1 Thessalonians 5:11 (LSB)
We strengthen one another through timely words that point to God’s truth and faithfulness.
Challenge: Send one person a thoughtful note this week with a Scripture and a specific word of encouragement.
8. Celebrate God’s Grace
1 Corinthians 1:4 (LSB)
We give thanks to God as we recognize the evidence of His grace in one another’s lives.
Challenge: Tell one person where you see spiritual growth or faithful service in their life, and thank God for it.
9. Build Friendships Across Generations
Titus 2:2–8 (LSB)
We strengthen our church as older and younger believers share life and encourage godly living.
Challenge: Arrange a conversation with someone from another generation and ask what God has been teaching them.
10. Care for Widows and Senior Saints
James 1:27 (LSB)
We honor vulnerable members of our church family through faithful companionship and practical care.
Challenge: Call a widow or senior adult this week and arrange a welcome visit or help with a specific task.
11. Listen With Care
James 1:19 (LSB)
We show humility and love by giving others our attention before offering advice.
Challenge: In your next conversation with someone who is hurting, put away your phone and listen without interrupting.
12. Refuse Gossip
Ephesians 4:29 (LSB)
We protect fellowship by speaking truthfully and graciously in ways that build others up.
Challenge: When a conversation turns to gossip, decline to pass it on and encourage a constructive response.
13. Practice Forgiveness
Colossians 3:13 (LSB)
Remembering the Lord’s forgiveness, we bear with one another and pursue reconciliation with humble hearts.
Challenge: Take one step toward reconciliation this week by confessing your own wrong or graciously responding to an apology.
14. Serve Without Recognition
Matthew 6:3–4 (LSB)
We serve to please our heavenly Father, who sees loving deeds that others never notice.
Challenge: Meet one need quietly this week, perhaps by giving a grocery gift card through a church leader.
15. Look for One Person to Love
Philippians 2:4 (LSB)
We learn to care by giving thoughtful attention to the people God places around us.
Challenge: Before church, ask God to help you notice one person, then greet them and learn how you can encourage them.
16. Share Life’s Joys and Sorrows
Romans 12:15 (LSB)
We draw close to one another in celebration and sorrow because we belong to the same church family.
Challenge: Contact someone facing a milestone or loss, and arrange a fitting way to celebrate or offer support.
17. Help Ensure Nobody Walks Alone
1 Corinthians 12:25–26 (LSB)
We share responsibility for one another’s well-being and remain present after the first days of a crisis.
Challenge: Ask someone in a hard season whether a weekly check-in would help, and set a reminder to follow through.
Take one step this week
Choose one practice, name one person, and make a plan to act.
Ask the Lord to deepen your love, then keep walking faithfully with your church family.
