Mortifying Sin, Pursuing Holiness

Mortifying Sin, Pursuing Holiness

Reading: Romans 8:12-13; Ephesians 4:22-24; Colossians 3:5-10

John Owen's charge cuts straight to the heart: be killing sin, or it will be killing you.
The Christian life is not passive. It is a daily, deliberate war against the flesh. The good news is that you are no longer fighting alone or without power. The Holy Spirit dwells within you, and through Him, you have the supernatural ability to say no to sin. The old self does not surrender quietly — it nags, it entices, it rationalizes. But... it is dead.

Do not give a corpse authority over your living soul.
Put sin to death today, and walk in the power of the new life Christ purchased for you.

Reflection Questions:
  • Is there a particular sin pattern in your life that you have been tolerating rather than actively fighting?
  • Does your sin trouble you?
  • What does your answer reveal about the condition of your heart?

Practical Application:
  • Choose one specific area of sin to address this week.
  • Confess it to God in prayer, then share it with a trusted fellow believer who can hold you accountable.
  • Do not fight alone.
