We Don't Always Have to Know
WE DON’T ALWAYS HAVE TO KNOW
by Ron Rhodes
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths.”
— Proverbs 3:5–6 (ESV)

1. GOD’S PLAN IS GREATER THAN OUR PERSPECTIVE
Life is filled with unanswered questions. We wonder WHY things happen the way they do, HOW situations will turn out, and WHEN God will finally intervene. Yet, Scripture reminds us that we don’t need all the answers to walk faithfully. Our limited perspective can never grasp the vastness of God’s inscrutable wisdom. Isaiah 55:8–9 assures us, “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways, declares the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts.”
Trust means believing that even when the path is unclear, the Guide is trustworthy. When we cannot see around the next bend, we can rest knowing that the One who leads us has already gone before us.
⸻
2. FAITH GROWS STRONGEST IN THE UNKNOWN
If we always understood everything God was doing, faith would no longer be necessary. Real faith is forged in the mystery — in the waiting, in the silence, in the in-between moments when we must choose to believe that God is still working. Hebrews 11:1 reminds us, “Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.”
In those unseen moments, our faith deepens. We learn to say with confidence, “I don’t know HOW, but I know WHO.” That’s the beauty of trust — our confidence isn’t in our CLARITY, but in God’s CHARACTER.
⸻
3. PEACE COMES FROM SURRENDER, NOT FROM CERTAINTY
So often, we equate peace with understanding. We think that if we could just figure everything out, our hearts would finally be at rest. But Philippians 4:6–7 tells a different story: “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
True peace doesn’t come from having all the ANSWERS — it comes from handing the QUESTIONS to God. When we surrender our need to control every circumstance, His peace fills the space where our worry used to live. The path may still be uncertain, but our hearts can be steady in His care.

CLOSING PRAYER
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for reminding me that I don’t always have to know — because You do.
Help me to trust You with all my heart, even when life doesn’t make sense.
When fear whispers doubts and the future feels unclear, teach me to rest in Your wisdom and Your timing.
Strengthen my faith in the waiting, and fill me with Your peace that passes all understanding.
I surrender my need to control, and I choose to walk in quiet confidence, knowing You are guiding every step.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
